Hotly tipped Teenagersintokyo have been turning industry heads up country with their alarming marriage of sinister, Fake Vacheron Constantin Watches crawling synths, pulsing rhythms and screaming guitars. Now they are heading for Cornwall to parade their subterranean style in the cellar venue at the Wig and Pen in Truro . In next to no time the female-dominated five-piece, originally from Sydney, Australia, have risen to be one of the bands to watch in 2010. Following the release of their self- titled EP in 2008, they bagged support slots with CSS, The Slits and The Gossip, a record deal with Backyard and a move to the other side of the world.
cheap uggNow based in London, they have a debut album called Sacrifice in the offing, recorded in the Welsh countryside with Faultline main man and twice Mercury Prize nominated Bat For Lashes producer David Kosten, and are poised to take their place among the art-pop new wave.
Support on the night comes from Cornwall's own rising stars Josie and the Lovecats, purveyors of a unique musical melee that is in turns dark, atmospheric and gothic, and curiously euphoric. Josie's vocals shift from breathy and delicately yearning, to soaring, direct and incisive. When combined with her angular piano playing, songs like Spider achieve a warped nursery rhyme feel.
